"I don't know you from a bale of hay"
— Ump at Aitkin
Hello all, here is my journal so you can all have a deeper look into my exciting and crazy life. I will be as truthful as I can, but there are some things that you just don't need to know. I have to make apologizes now for any future drunken posts, but you have to understand that boys will be boys. Well about the trip...there are 40 SJU/CSB students who have the opportunity to study at the University of Notre Dame in Fremantle, Western Australia. We live in an old hotel, the P&O and live within shouting distance of students from Iona College, Boston Collge, Catholic University, Notre Dame, and perhaps others, who knows. It will be a fun and exciting semester and I'll tell you what happens and maybe show some pictures, if they get past the censors, enjoy.

This is the last day ... and its sad [6/23/2006 | 9:45pm]  Aussie Time: [6/24/2006 | 11:45am

So last night was interesting, I do not exactly remember how I went to bed I suspect because everyone's sadness culminated me to rather go to bed than go to Harbourside

Last night it hit, this trip is coming to an end ... the run is almost over ... and I saw men cry last night ... four people left last night, we were at the freo enjoying a few last middies and then 10 o clock came and it was time for four of the best blokes youve ever met to go home and it was a sad and interesting moment, i reckon it was the culmination of the trip for some and the realization for others ... today in about 6 hours i will leave fremantle (FREO) and head back to the united states of america, it is an absolute amazing feeling that i will never again have ... i love freo and everything it represents for me and for the counterparts (BO and lisa marie), believe me when i say that i can feel the presence of them from 3 years ago and the fun they had and match it with the fun i had ... its been a good run and its hard to say goodbye

goodbye

p.s. i might write again, whether it in AU, NZ, or the USA when i get back, remember BO i still have the password and you know you will not change it

Socceroos [6/23/2006 | 2:18am]  Aussie Time: [6/23/2006 | 4:18pm

Well last night was a success, the guy at the pub that we are regulars at held a World Cup Party. First we watched Italy beat the Czech (which the U.S. needed to advance), then we watched the USA lose to Ghana and then watched the SOCCEROOS tie Croatia which was a blast. It was a blast at the end when the Socceroos scored the tying goal to advance to the next round. We went nuts and it was like 5 in the morning. After moving the furniture back and picking up the popcorn, we went to bed.

Today has been an interesting day. I woke up late and then did some shopping which I have more to do yet and then tonight we will party for one last time in Australia. It will be fun, sad, hilarious, tear-filled for the girls and well the culmination of this whole trip. Tomorrow there will be more packing and then we leave Perth Intl at like 8pm or so, so we will say goodbye to Freo at about 4 or so. That is all for now, more tomorrow

48 hours left [6/22/2006 | 6:04am]  Aussie Time: [6/22/2006 | 8:04pm

Yesterday was my last final which was in Australian History and Society. After a short nap, I met with Aussie friends and American friends for some pints of Swan and some Southern Comfort. After going to a few different pubs, we went back for the night and I attempted to watch my movies that I bought in Thailand and kinda like my terrible fake rolex, my movies are terrible quality, don't work or the movie is terrible as a firm -- so that's good. Today I kinda just relaxed and then took a 3 hour walk around Freo and took pictures for my memory photos and we are a few hours away from going to the pubs for some beer, pool, and soccer. Rumor has it we may still up late and sleep over and watch soccer at the pub. More on that tomorrow. Today on my walk was weird as I thought "Hey we have 48 hours left on this amazing journey after about 3300+ hours of the journey". It has been an amazing ride.

One Final to Go!! [6/20/2006 | 7:19am]  Aussie Time: [6/20/2006 | 9:19pm

It's been a while since I wrote, so now I am writing. It's been an interesting past few days and a terrific fun filled party weekend with clubs on all three nights and a pong tournament on saturday with a chill night on friday ... I lost again in a controversial manner in Saturday's pong tournament, still a little bit miffed on that one ... basically i have been partying and studying lately and buying souveniers.

We only have a few more days left and I hope they go well, only one more final tomorrow, a couple days in freo and souvenier shopping and then its like 45-55 hours of travel en route to minnesota, its absurd but we have some long layovers .. we start sometime on saturday (like 4 in the afternoon) and get back about midnight sunday night (monday morning) ... add the 24 hour dateline change and its a long travel back (i dont actually know the math ... because i went to albany)

That's all for now but there will be more soon

Cheers, jo

Second to Last Thursday [6/16/2006 | 3:54am]  Aussie Time: [6/16/2006 | 5:54pm

Yesterday was a really cool day. I woke up and took a final for Early Church History which went alright. Then we went to a park in Perth called King's Park (which I had not gone before) and did the Treetop Walk and saw some beautiful sites before going to Cottesloe for some wave jumping, wave swimming, and sunset (Yes it was very cold, think the lake in October). Then we came back to Freo for some kekabs (my goodness it was amazing) before going out for a night on the town which got crazy ... This weekend should be a good one as most will go out and capture the last days of Australia. Only some Australian History and Economics study is in the cards for me on things I need to do. Hope all is well, cheers, jo

USA v. Czech Republic [6/12/2006 | 1:07pm]  Aussie Time: [6/13/2006 | 3:07am

So for the first time in my life, I am paying attention to soccer. It is interesting, since I am not living in America, I try to pay attention to what the world pays attention to...for the next month that is World Cup Football. The USA is ranked #5 by FIFA but lost in their first round robin against #2 Czech Republic (they have to have 2 wins against Italy and Ghana to make the tournament). Meanwhile earlier tonight Australia 3 goals in the last 8 minutes to oust Japan ... the first, second, and third goals of Australia's World Cup History, the place was going nuts.

I got back from an interesting and somewhat disappointing trip to Thailand yesterday. A few poor incidents but overall a positive experience (albeit expensive) as I have now been to Asia and met some cool people. It was also very expensive which is why my assistants at 1-800-JO-BROKE are working overtime to serve you this week. Check out our new and improved website to help JO in his travels. That website is:
www.helpjobecauseheisreallybrokeandhasnomoneybutishavingfun.com
your donations so far have been well recieved.

For those of you who care I get back at 11pm at MSP on June 25th. Essenially one day before the big number 21.

An interesting thing happened the other day when I returned to Australia through customs. I am required to talk to AU customs everytime I enter the country because of a 3 year old incident that happened at the bar while working. While discussing the process with the agents (which was a good convo) the agent actually encouraged me to look into migrating to AU. She gave me details and how the points system worked. Perhaps it is a sign, but I will give the USA another go starting on the 25th of June.

That was a long post, if I bored you, I apoligize, for those of you who enjoyed, have a good day

Cheers, "JO"

Koh Samui [6/10/2006 | 1:07am]  Aussie Time: [6/10/2006 | 3:07pm

Koh Samui is much more of a resort type area. We rode elephants, went ATVing and did some cool things in the area and in the jungle. We also went to a Thai Boxing match and to a famous island known for its "Full Moon" parties. The weather has been very nice. I will connect again in a few days, jo

Bangkok [6/6/2006 | 6:42am]  Aussie Time: [6/6/2006 | 8:42pm

Well I did find some internet in the Airport in Bangkok so I will discuss it a bit. Bangkok is a crazy city, full of people who want to take advantage of you and the market structure is interesting, everyone has predetermined deals with everyone. The air is terrible and I went into Bangkok with a cold so that did not help. Those things aside, I am having a really good time, we got cheap stuff in the market (I bought t-shirts and a ROLEX (likely fake) and other things). We were in a nice hotel and we went to the Golden Palace which is a huge Buddhist shrine and temple. It was amazing. Well, my plane is about to take off, I have not answered any emails; however, I will when I get more time than this computer
Cheers, jo

Off to Thailand in 1 hour and 56 minutes [6/3/2006 | 10:17pm]  Aussie Time: [6/4/2006 | 12:17pm

After a very successful weekend here in Fremantle, WA, AU, and seeing BO "watching me" from what appears to be the common room (I checked, he isnt actualy there, but there is an awkward swivelling-hips-type and bandit-like presence in said common room), I will be off to study for finals Bangkok, Thailand for 2 days before going to Koh Samui for 4 days. They say Koh Samui is a terrific place to do said finals studying. I will brief you all about it when I get back (and will try to make one appearance in Thailand if I get to a computer).

Unfortunately, the terrific people at this institution are still not allowing me to post pictures on this site ... I do not know what to do about that, I may send a few to BO

My monologue was of me being a lecturing general manager at a toy store the day before christmas and discussing what it will be like. It was a pretty funny monologue and naturally I made it very funny (haha, not) but I was very serious in my role. By acting serious and annoyed I think it made what I was actually say even funnier. Classes are done and I think I am doing surprisingly well for how much I go out and explore and how little I study (but I suppose I do not have multiple jobs this semester either)

Well that is all for now ... Gotta finish packing ... I am going back to the NORTHERN HEMISPHERE for some summer action (albeit not the USA)

Cheers, jo
