The Iron 10 headed down to Marshall to take on the class C Marshall A's. The players you see in the box score below are all the players that traveled to Marshall. While the Lakers came up on the short end of a 3-2 ballgame there was a lot of positives to be taken away.
Highlights included a fine pitching performance by Nick Locnikar with an error less defense behind him. Nick took a no hitter into the 5th inning but after getting the 1st out the number 8 hitter Peschong hit a ground ball to Charlie Lockridge's right at 2B. It was a tough play and Charlie almost made it but didn't have enough time to thrown him out at first.
The defense behind Nick turned 3 key double plays to erase a couple of the walks issued by Locnikar. The most important one was in the 5th, after the A's first hit, the Oakridge boys turned a patented 6-4-3 double play to erase the hit and send the game into the 6th with a 1-0 lead.
Low lights was Locnikar forgetting his keys for the apartment he was renting while attending SMSU. This forced the majority of the 10 Lakers to stay at the local Bed-Bug Inn. |
