In a battle of Victory League unbeatens, the Lastrup Lakers defeated the Avon Lakers 6-1 Saturday night in Pierz. Chad Weiss went the distance for Lastrup, scattering 1 run on 8 hits while striking out 9. Lastrup struck first with Dan Saehr's sac fly in the top of the 2nd to make it 1-0. Avon tied the game in the 4th at 1-1 on an rbi single by Lincoln Haugen. Lastrup went ahead for good in the 5th when they got a run on a Dave Woitalla ground out to make it 2-1. Dan Saehr drove in his second run of the game with a single in the 6th to make it
3-1. Lastrup added to their lead in the 7th when Dave Woitalla hit a solo homer with 1 out. Lastrup finished the scoring in the 8th on Scott Janson's 2-run double to make the final 6-1. With the win, Lastrup improved to 10-0 and clinched the East Division regular season title and an automatic berth in the Region 8C tournament. Avon falls to 8-1 and has a 2 1/2 game lead in the South. |
